A new affordable, not-for-profit grocery store has opened in Central Square. Daily Table was founded on the premise that delicious, wholesome and affordable food should be available to all. Founder and President Doug Rauch says his goal is "to provide a valuable resource to the Central Square community that empowers customers by reducing the economic barriers to choosing a healthy diet."
Daily Table isn't like your typical grocery store. Its team members are hired from the local community at a starting wage of $15.69/hour. Every food item in the store meets strict nutritional guidelines developed by world-class nutritionists while still being priced to fit every budget. They even have a prepared food section with meals starting at $1.99!
The store is located at 684 Massachusetts Ave. It's open from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. Monday - Friday and 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. on Sunday. The first hour every day is seniors-only. Daily Table is a membership store (membership is free and open to all) and they accept cash, credit, and SNAP.
To celebrate its opening, Daily Table will be live-streaming a ribbon cutting ceremony! Hear from Cambridge Mayor Sumbul Siddiqui, the Commissioner of MDAR John Lebeaux and Daily Table Founder & President Doug Rauch. To join the livestream visit the Daily Table facebook page at 1:00 p.m. on January 21st.
